Yoga

The ancient secret of power, movement and stillness

Tune into Your Natural State

Do you remember how you moved as a child? The lightness, the fluidity, the softness. Do you remember as a child your curiosity and joy of play and discovery?

Generally children move and have these qualities, and we can be mistaken to think that these essences are just for childhood. A lot of these essences get put to sleep in us as soon as we take on the social programming at school of sitting still, “concentrate, you must study hard, stop daydreaming,” etc, etc.
Then when we leave school a lot of us go in to work and we stop climbing trees, swinging, skipping, jumping, exploring, rolling upside down, with no sense of time and even laughing…children mainly are interested in the process of things rather than end results and as very young children we have no sense of failure......you know all the things we used to love as kids.

Have you ever noticed that in those moments when you are really happy something in you is more expanded, more open? That feeling of openness is associated with happiness, feeling good…and conversely when you are stressed or anxious or fearful something in you has contracted, shrunk, tense. Even the English language knows this very well: de-pressed. Many people live in this state and it becomes there default setting, so over time they can develop tight hips, or bad backs, aged faces, negative thinking..…you know what I mean. You know people like this don’t you?

So hold on a moment….what has this little childhood philosophy lecture got to do with Kashmir yoga???
Well that’s a great question… it has everything to do with Kashmir yoga !!!

Well in this approach of yoga the idea is to reawaken your natural state of lightness and fluidity and inner confidence that comes from being what you truly are.
We are not interested in making people acrobats or contortionist, or perfecting stretches, or chanting omms, however this practice has its roots in the 9th century mountains and temples of Kashmir, and can be very powerful and challenging.
It has been tried and tested and perfected over the centuries and if committed to, always works.

We use ancient yoga explorations of body and breathing plus relaxations and meditations to reawaken your natural playfulness and help balance your nervous system and breathing and core power systems. You know the latest research is now suggesting, what we all know inside, its common sense, that all modern life’s stresses, worry, fears, anxieties, pressures, insecurities soak into our bodies into our nerves, affect organs and glands and imbalances our nervous system and over time they will sink deeper and eventually can cause so many of our modern health and mental problems..So we take the body through many different planes of movement, we leave no stone unturned, we gently squeeze and rinse and realign. We go through every organ, gland, muscle, bone and even give you a greater focus and mindpower.

You are unique, you are organised in everyway quite different from everyone else, so you have to be careful, to make sure the yoga teacher is of that level where they understand your uniqueness and can help explore with you, your own timing, your own strengths and breathing rhythm so the teacher gets to know your potential; they understand how you move and how to bring more out of you.
So this ancient art which has survived many centuries, tried and tested could be a fantastic life companion.
Lets face it how many things in life is there the possibility of growing younger, stronger and having more energy….be honest what can you keep on improving at even if you take up this art at 90 as a complete beginner. (One of my best students has just turned 83 last week)……………..
You see yoga is not something you are training to be or even a skill you want to add, its something you naturally are…its deep down inside us all…its just a reminder….to return home…that’s all…you see…very easy…very simple….very natural…..because its YOU

The practice of Kashmir Yoga is designed to return you home to the heart of what is natural. This ancient form of Yoga, derived from eighth century Kashmir teachings intertwined with functional anatomy and the latest insights into our nervous system has a magical effect on mind, body and heart, using imagery, explorations in asanas and spacious breathing, you may find yourself awakening into your 'light open free state'.
